If you were a baby boomer and grew up in the twentieth century, you experienced an era of structures that have disappeared as a practice in the twentieth first century. Looking at the maturation of the people of the twentieth century from infant to adult there were identifiable differences to compare too in todays world. The ability to express values and morales was considered and accepted by our communities. It has been lost in the political correct minutiae of what should not be done from what was right. By observing and serving youth and adults who have experienced homelessness, addiction, alcoholism, absentee parents, incarcerated people and dysfunctional families they have many similar experiences. This leads us to have a better understanding of how we got to where we are at today. The most intelligent people on how to approach drugs, alcohol, prisons, homelessness, which has bread more crime in our communities have made us all believe we can solve the deplorable conditions with passing more laws, building welfare systems that only through more money at the problem with instituting punitive measures that creates stigma of lower expectations of those who end up in these never ending journeys. The Omaha, Nebraska community has accepted a new formula for success with an organization that comes before you to serve people who have the stereotypes society has given them as people who are a part of a community that are resting in a life of failures. When looking at their lives you find a path that runs in a circle. "Mentors of Bethany in America", accepted the opportunity to change lives with servant leadership. Answers to thwart these cyclical habits and lives was to surround people with people who care and could build better life experiences. They were just looking for those who could provide lives with leadership. These people were given hope in their lives by giving them the confidence to reject passivity, accept responsibility, lead courageously, and to invest in their lives eternally. Mentors of Bethany in America consists of men and women who are faithfully committed and dedicated to break the cycle of segregation, prejudice, broken families, poverty, and the variables that produce statistics of what leads to a heart breaking future for many people who think they are locked into a cycle for life.
